Quepem deputy collector Manohar Karekar has issued a show-cause notice to M/s Adani Gas Pvt Ltd, which has its office in Margao, and to the attorney of the Shri Mahadev Temple, Cacora, in connection with construction activity and storage of CNG cylinders at a property in Cacora.

The parties have been directed to appear before the deputy collector on March 13 and produce the required permissions and approvals for the construction work, failing which appropriate orders may be issued, including prohibition of operations and removal or dismantling of the storage facility.

Karekar said a complaint had been received from Chetna Education Society’s School near ITI, Cacora, regarding suspicious construction activity and storage of hazardous CNG cylinders on the property.

Following the complaint, Karekar directed the Quepem mamlatdar to conduct a joint site inspection along with officials from the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC), Curchorem fire station and Curchorem police.

The mamlatdar’s report said that a CNG installation comprising around 20 cylinders, each connected to a pipeline and distribution unit had been installed.

It was also reported that no board displaying permissions or licences obtained from competent authorities was found at the site.

Further, the inspection report said that no permission for installation of infrastructure had been obtained from CCMC.

It was also reported that no conversion sanad had been obtained and that no fire safety clearance had been secured.

The mamlatdar also said that records from Form I and XIV revealed that the construction and installations had come up on property belonging to the Cacora temple.

The notice said that storage and handling of a large quantity of highly inflammable gas cylinders at the location without statutory permissions poses a serious and imminent danger to human life, public safety and nearby institutions.
