Margao: Minister for Environment and Law, Aleixo Sequeira, on Sunday said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set high goals to make India the third-largest economy in the world.
Sequeira, who was speaking as the chief guest for the 76th Republic Day celebration held at the South Goa District Collectorate premises, spoke about “Golden India” focusing on the legacy and progress of the nation.
He commended past prime ministers for upholding constitutional values and lauded Prime Minister Modi for setting ambitious economic goals.
“The Prime Minister governs the nation with the utmost respect for the Constitution and aims to make India the third-largest economy by 2027. Every Indian must contribute in their way to realise this dream,” he added.
The minister said that the Republic Day is not just another festival but a true celebration of unity in diversity. Explaining the historical journey of India’s freedom from British rule and the subsequent division into two dominions— India and Pakistan —Sequeira said that Republic Day marks a significant milestone in Indian history.
“This day symbolises the adoption of the Constitution and India’s transition from a British dominion to a sovereign republic. It is a tribute to the democratic framework that embodies justice and equality,” he said.
He said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has prioritised the education sector and initiated the implementation of the National Education Policy in the state. Addressing students, Sequeira said, “Let us stand bravely, live proudly, and dream boldly—nothing is impossible for a nation like ours.”
Earlier, Sequeira inspected the Guard of Honour and reviewed a march past by contingents of the police, home guards, and the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation. The event featured patriotic songs and cultural performances. Prominent attendees included Navelim legislator Ulhas Tuenkar, freedom fighters, South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus, Additional Collector Srineth Kothwale, SP Sunita Sawant, and other officials.
