Need for 2 day-care cancer centres also raised

Panaji: Following the presentation of the Union Budget 2025, Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) president Shrinivas Dempo has urged the central government to include Goa in the Prime Minister’s Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.

“We request that North and South Goa districts be considered for the scheme to boost agricultural development,” Dempo stated in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Thanking Modi for a well-balanced and growth-oriented Budget, the industrialist also asked for two day-care cancer centres in the state to provide accessible cancer treatment.

In the letter, Dempo requested the development of major tourism centres in Goa to enhance infrastructure and promote the sector. He also asked for an additional outlay for the state under the Jal Jeevan Mission, stating, “Certain parts are still facing water supply issues.”

Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry  has reacted positively to the Union Budget. “The Budget prioritises economic expansion, addresses critical concerns of various sectors, and ensures sustainable growth for businesses and individuals alike. The suggestions made by GCCI on the rationalisation of TDS, tax relief measures, and the enhanced focus on MSMEs were accepted in the Budget. These will definitely boost the economy and industries, particularly in labour-intensive sectors,” said Dempo.

“The simplification of taxation laws, the introduction of a new Income Tax Bill, and the increased income tax exemption limit to Rs 12 lakh are welcome steps. We also commend the government’s emphasis on tourism and fisheries, which will benefit Goa’s economy. Measures to reduce litigation, introduce presumptive taxation for non-residents, and streamline taxation policies will ensure ease of doing business,” said the president of Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
