The central government has released Rs 1,279.09 crore to the state under the scheme of special assistance of states for capital expenditure up to January 27, 2027 for the financial year 2025-26.
A reply tabled in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for finance Pankaj Chaudhary revealed that a total 1,03,374.63 crore fund has been released to various states under the scheme for capital expenditure for the current fiscal year.
The objective of the scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment is to assist the states and Union territory administrations in boosting capital expenditure and to promote reforms in key areas. An outlay of Rs 1,50,000 crore has been allocated under the scheme in 2025-26.
According to the ministry, the said fund is being released to the states as share of centrally sponsored schemes, including urban and rural infrastructure projects, incentive for achieving fixed for capital expenditure, mining sector reforms, scrapping of old vehicles and electronic enforcement of road safety, land related reforms by states in rural areas and urban areas, incentives for efficiency in financial management. The minister also said the states are free to encourage private investment in capital projects in addition to the assistance received under the scheme.
