Goa police seized 660.55kg of drugs in 455 cases registered under the NDPS Act between 2022 and 2024, with convictions recorded in 100 cases, according to information provided by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply tabled in the Lok Sabha on
August 11.
In 2022, Goa police seized 206.840 kg of drugs, followed by 171.794 kg in 2023 and 281.916 kg in 2024. The police registered 153 cases in 2022, with convictions in 25 cases; 140 cases in 2023, with convictions in 31 cases; and 162 cases in 2024, with convictions in 44 cases.
Rai said a Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-2029) was released on June 26 to address illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse. He said the document would be implemented by the concerned central ministries, departments and agencies, and state governments and Union Territories, according to specified action points and timelines over three years.
“It is further envisaged that states and districts would prepare their 3 years road map to control
drugs in consonance with the National Road Map outlined in the vision document,” said Rai.
The four focus areas are enforcement, including intelligence and operations; precursor and synthetic drug control; demand
and harm reduction; and capacity building and coordination.
Rai said enforcement agencies, including the NCB, state police, Customs and Coast Guard, were coordinating through NCORD, the Joint Coordination Committee, intelligence-sharing platforms and joint operations.
He said the strategy focused on dismantling drug trafficking networks, targeting traffickers at transnational, interstate, state and district levels, mandatory financial investigations in commercial-quantity cases, disrupting proceeds of crime and prosecuting offenders.
