Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar on Sunday claimed that the BJP has turned governance into a yoga exercise in balancing corruption, debt and anti-people policies.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Chodankar extended greetings to citizens who sincerely practise yoga as a means of achieving physical fitness, mental well-being and inner discipline. At the same time, he launched a sharp attack on the BJP government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, accusing it of reducing governance to an exercise in political optics while burdening the people of Goa with a series of crises.
Chodankar said that after nearly 14 years of BJP rule, Goans have become experts in managing stress, anxiety and uncertainty created by the government’s policies.
“Every household in Goa today understands the importance of yoga because people are constantly struggling to maintain balance amid rising prices, unemployment, financial insecurity and anti-people decisions of the BJP Government,” he said.
He said that while yoga is a serious discipline and way of life for millions, for the BJP government it has become an annual publicity event used to divert attention from its failures.
“Perhaps the greatest yogic achievement of the BJP government is its extraordinary ability to maintain perfect balance while carrying the burden of corruption scandals, the controversial Section 39-A, the smart meter imposition, the jobs-for-cash allegations, the growing drug menace, mounting public debt and the reckless sale of Goa’s resources. Despite all these issues weighing heavily on the people, the government continues to sit comfortably in denial,” Chodankar said.
