Minister for Drinking Water Subhash Phal Dessai on Wednesday said the government aims to provide drinking water to every household within the next six months, through ongoing water augmentation projects. “Recently, a Rs 28 crore tender for pipeline installation, covering areas across three constituencies in South Goa district, including Velim, was floated. We are installing additional lines wherever feasible. Our aim is that within the next six months—that is, by the end of this year—to provide drinking water to every household, even in the state’s most remote areas,” said Phal Dessai.
He was speaking as chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the replacement of 300mm ACC pipelines with new 300mm DI pipelines, along with installation of additional 200mm, 150mm and 100mm DI pipelines. The works will originate from the Padribhatt-Galli area of Sao Jose de Areal in Velim constituency.
“Given Goa’s status as a premier tourist destination attracting a vast number of visitors, coupled with the fact that locals have forsaken their wells and other available water resources, significant pressure is now being exerted on our drinking water supply,” he said, urging citizens to prioritise conservation, preservation, and judicious use of drinking water.
