Lands with existing structures no longer need fresh sanads
Margao/Panaji: The Goa government has issued a circular exempting lands in settlement zones from certain provisions of the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, provided specific conditions are met—such as the presence of structures existing between 1970–72 on a surveyed holding of up to 1,000 sqm, with at least 25% plot coverage.
The circular, issued by Under Secretary Revenue Vrushika P Kauthankar, refers to the 2007 official gazette and states that such structures, already reflected in the records
of rights (Form I and XIV) and survey plans, need not obtain a fresh conversion sanad during reconstruction.
This move seeks to resolve ambiguities and inconsistent interpretations across departments regarding conversion applicability.
Kaunthankar said the circular aims to bring clarity and ensure minimal inconvenience to the public. All departments concerned have been directed to follow these instructions.
Individuals seeking formal recognition of existing structures can submit a written request in the prescribed format to the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer along with a processing fee of Rs 1,000.
Applications must be disposed of within 60 days following record examination and certificate issuance, if found valid.
The circular has been approved by the government to streamline exemption and conversion procedures within Goa’s settlement zone, the under secretary stated.
