In ensure the protection and empowerment of transgender persons in Goa, the state government has constituted a 14-member Model Transgender Welfare Board, headed by the Chief Secretary.
The board has been set up under the provisions of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights)
Act, 2019, and the Rules of 2020, with the mandate to oversee and facilitate the implementation of welfare schemes and policies dedicated to the
transgender community.
Officials said the newly formed body will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by transgender persons in Goa and ensuring that their rights are safeguarded across key sectors, including healthcare, education, employment, and housing.
The formation of the board, they said, aligns with the government’s broader commitment to building an inclusive and equitable society where every individual, regardless of gender identity, is provided with equal
opportunities and dignity.
Further details regarding the board’s operational framework, the representation of members from the transgender community, and the announcement of upcoming initiatives are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
