Govt lifts suspension of Monteiro, Halarnkar in Arpora fire incident

Goa government has revoked suspension of two senior officials, the then member secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB)
Dr Shamila Monteiro and then Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar.

Both were suspended
in December last month for their alleged role in granting permissions to operate the Birch by Romeo Lane Nightclub where 25 persons lost their lives after a fire incident on December 6.

The suspension was revoked few days back and both the officers have been asked to report to the personnel department.

A senior government officer said that while their suspension has been revoked, the preliminary inquiry is still in progress against the two officials.

It may be noted that on Thursday the Anjuna police filed a 4,150-page chargesheet before JMFC, Mapusa, against 13 people in connection with the fire tragedy at Birch by Romeo Lane Nightclub
in Arpora.

The 13 accused named in the chargesheet include Ajay Gupta, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, who are partners in M/s Being GS Hospitality Goa Arpora LLP and owners of Birch by Romeo Lane Bar & Restaurant /Club.

Charges have also been filed against those who held managerial posts at the nightclub – Rajiv Modak (49), corporate general manager; Vivek Singh (27), general manager; and Bijay Kumar Singh (38), operation manager.

Priyanshu Thakur (32), who was gate manager, and Rajveer Singhania, who was the bar manager, have also been chargesheeted.

Former sarpanch of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat Roshan Redkar (46) and former panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar (49) have also been named in the chargesheet.

The police have also booked and chargesheeted two officials of an event company, which had organised a show on the night of the tragedy.
