Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said the government is moving ahead with the Green Lung Project in urban and municipal areas with the objective of improving air quality and reducing rising temperatures. On Friday, Rane held a detailed review meeting
on the project.

“This is an important step towards reimagining our municipal spaces as healthier, greener and more climate-resilient environments,” Rane said. “By creating green lungs within urban and municipal areas, we are working to improve air quality, reduce rising temperatures, restore ecological balance and provide citizens with breathable, accessible green spaces amid rapid urbanisation.”

He said the initiative reflects the government’s vision of sustainable governance, where growth is inclusive, cities are liveable and future generations inherit a Goa that is progressive and
environmentally secure.

Meanwhile, Rane also conducted a comprehensive review meeting of the Forest Department. He took stock of ongoing initiatives, field-level progress and operational priorities aimed at strengthening forest conservation and sustainable management in the state. The review focused on implementation status, inter-departmental coordination, protection measures and strategies to enhance ecological balance while supporting livelihoods dependent on forest resources, he said.

The meeting was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Kamal Datta, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest K Ramesh Kumar, ACCF Praveen K Raghav and Conservator of Forests (Wildlife and Ecotourism) Naveen Kumar.
