Goa’s premier industrial
estate at Verna, home to
several large industries, is set to accommodate small artisan businesses, with the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) proposing a handicraft cluster at the estate.
The cluster will be developed across 18 plots to be allotted on a leasehold basis, GIDC said.
The plots range in size from 640 sqm to 1,462 sqm.
“The plots, with their strategic location and potential for growth, offer a unique opportunity for industrial development,” GIDC said in its advertisement inviting applications from interested parties.
The corporation said
the plots will be allotted in accordance with Regulation 5 of the GIDC (Allotment, Transfer and Sub-lease) Regulations, 2023. However, Regulations 5.4 and 5.5, which deal with financial processing, lease rent and application deposits, will not apply to these plots.
According to the advertisement, the Goa Handicrafts, Rural and Small Scale Industrial Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) will be part of the screening committee for the allotment process. The plots will be allotted based on GHRSSIDC’s recommendations, the scoring criteria prescribed by it, and the specified activities permitted on the plots.
Besides the handicraft cluster, GIDC is also developing an IT Park at the Verna Industrial Estate. The project, named Hello World, comprises seven plots of 25,000 sq m each. GIDC recently completed the allotment of three of these plots.
According to the corporation, the Hello World project is expected to generate around 20,000 jobs.
