The Konkan Railway, intensifying ticket checks to curb ticketless travel, said it detected over 44,000 cases of unauthorised and irregular travellers in January 2026 and collected more than Rs 2 crore in penalties.

“During January 2026, KRCL organised 1,014 special ticket checking drives, detecting 44,736 cases of unauthorised/irregular travellers. An amount of Rs 2.53 crore was collected from these passengers towards due railway fare and penalty,” it said in a press statement.

Cumulatively, between April 2025 and January 2026, a total of 9,495
special ticket checking drives have been conducted. These resulted in the detection of 4,13,637 cases of unauthorised/irregular travellers, with a total recovery of Rs 22.81 crore as railway fare and penalties.

“These special drives are being carried out in close coordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and railway officials, covering trains and stations across the Konkan Railway network,” the Konkan Railway said.

It said that on February 26, KRCL will undertake intensified ticket-checking drives across its entire route in coordination with RPF personnel and railway officials to ensure safe, secure and comfortable travel for bona fide passengers.
