Margao

The Goa Lokayukta has registered a complaint against Margao Municipal
Council (MMC) chief officer Madhu Guno Narvekar following a grievance filed by former chairperson and Congress leader
Savio Coutinho.

The complaint, filed under the Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011, alleges corruption, maladministration and abuse of authority in issuing a no objection certificate (NOC) to a private club on land belonging to the MMC.

Coutinho has also
alleged an offence under Section 227 of the
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for providing false information.

Coutinho said the Lokayukta had issued a notice to Narvekar, summoning him for a preliminary inquiry on August 5.

He alleged that the NOC was issued
without a council resolution and prior sanction required under Section 88 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.

He said the Directorate of Municipal Administration had also sought an explanation from the MMC.

The land is being contested by a private club in an Inspector of Survey and Land Records (ISLR) case scheduled for hearing on July 28.
