Ponda

A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident after a container truck allegedly rammed into his motorcycle at
Parpatiwada, Borim, on Saturday evening.

The victim, Nitin Gaude of Marcaim, died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

Ponda police said the container driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, prompting a search operation.

Acting on available leads, police traced the truck to Bethoda within a short time and detained the driver along with the vehicle.

The accused Rajesh Kumar (26), a native of Bihar, has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the fatal accident.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident, conducted a panchanama and shifted the victim’s body for post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal formalities.

The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the Borim stretch.

Borim sarpanch Sagar Naik urged the authorities to widen the narrow road, stating that the existing carriageway has become increasingly unsafe because of the movement of heavy vehicles and the frequent occurrence of accidents.
