The investigation into the suspicious death of a 21-year-old tourist from Madhya Pradesh in Vagator has taken a new turn, with preliminary medical reports indicating consumption of multiple substances. Anjuna police have intensified the probe and are recording statements in the case.

Police on Tuesday received preliminary medical and Randox reports from Goa Medical College, which revealed traces of multiple drugs along with alcohol in the deceased’s body. Officials said viscera samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory in Verna for detailed chemical analysis and the final report is awaited.

Sources said police are examining all angles and will be investigating to know the source of the drugs. They are likely to re-record statements of the deceased’s friends who had accompanied him to Goa. The friends had earlier stated that they had consumed only alcohol, but the medical findings have contradicted their claims. Police have asked them to return to Goa for further questioning.

The deceased, identified as Ishan Singh Badgujar, a final-year student from Indore, had come to Goa on vacation with friends. He reportedly fell unconscious after feeling unwell at a club in Vagator and was later declared dead at the Mapusa District Hospital.

Police have also recorded statements of staff at the Vagator club.

Further investigation is in progress.
