Mapusa police suspect revenge as the motive behind the brutal murder of an Odisha worker, who was found dead in a temporary hut at Parra. Police said the deceased had allegedly assaulted his uncle a day prior to the incident, prompting retaliation from the uncle and his son.

On Wednesday, the two accused—Satya Nabarangpura (50) and Thabir Nabarangpura (31)—were produced before the Mapusa JMFC, which remanded them in five days of police custody.

Police said on Sunday the deceased, Daropada Naik, had a fight with his uncle Satya near the Mapusa
bus stand. Satya later informed his son Thabir about the incident at their construction site.

On Monday, the accused allegedly questioned Daropada and later consumed alcohol together at their temporary hut. “While consuming alcohol, arguments erupted over the earlier assault. In a fit of rage, Satya and Thabir tried to strangle the victim with a waist belt. When he resisted, Thabir picked up a crowbar from the room and struck Daropada multiple times on the head,” said police.

“Satya then took a knife, stabbed the victim in the stomach, and later Bobbitised him while he lay motionless in a pool of blood,” police said.

The site supervisor, who later visited the room, discovered the body. The accused had fled and were later found hiding in a nearby field.

Police also revealed that both accused were involved in a body offence case registered at Golamunda Police Station in Odisha in 2020. Mapusa police are further investigating the case.
