‘Progress so far has made early completion feasible’

Special Correspondent

Panaji: Minister for Public Works Digambar Kamat said on Thursday that efforts are under way to complete the 5.15 km-long Porvorim six-lane elevated corridor by mid-September, ahead of the original October-November deadline.

Speaking at the project’s hot-mixing ceremony, Kamat said that the goal is to open the corridor in time for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to allow citizens to conveniently transport their idols.

The hot-mixing phase marks a key milestone for the infrastructure development, which carries a project cost of over Rs 450 crore. The ceremony was held in the presence of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and MLA Kedar Naik.

During the event, the PWD Minister credited the contractor for maintaining a fast pace and ensuring quality execution.

He said that the progress achieved thus far has made the early completion target feasible.

The elevated corridor is a major initiative designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity along the busy stretch. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly streamline vehicular movement and reduce travel time for commuters in the area.
