Sankhali: Stating that the Union Budget 2026-27 is bold, reform-oriented and people-centric, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has prioritised “people over populism”.
Sawant said the budget strikes a fine balance between fiscal prudence and economic growth and reinforces trust in public investment while accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a globally competitive economy.
He said the increase in capital expenditure will give a boost to infrastructure development, logistics, railways and urban growth. The Chief Minister also praised the Union Finance Minister’s push for manufacturing across seven strategic sectors, which, he said, would strengthen MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), generate employment and enhance domestic value chains.
Welcoming the launch of India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, Sawant said the targeted support to full-stack design, Indian intellectual property and supply chains marks a decisive step towards technological
self-reliance. He also lauded the Biopharma Shakti initiative, along with the expansion of NIPERs (National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research), clinical trial networks and medical tourism hubs, stating that these measures would position India as a global hub for affordable, high-quality healthcare and biologic medicines.
Special attention given to coconut-growing states and the Indian cashew and coconut sectors was another positive aspect of the Budget, Sawant said, adding that it would strengthen agro-processing, enhance farmer incomes and support coastal economies.
Calling the Budget visionary and futuristic, the Chief Minister said it lays out a clear roadmap for innovation, employment, inclusive growth and a resilient India. He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering a transformative Budget that advances the mission of Viksit Bharat.
