In a relief to transport operators and daily commuters, heavy vehicles, medium commercial vehicles and buses are once again permitted to ply across the Rawanfond bridge.
South Goa Collector and District Magistrate Srinet Kothwale revoked the long-standing traffic restrictions on
the crucial stretch connecting Rawanfond to the Power House Junction in Aquem with
immediate effect.
The order was issued after the executive engineer of the Public Works Department (Roads) submitted a report stating that the GSIDC-constructed road-over-bridge had been successfully stabilised. The decision also followed the consent of the project consultant, ensuring that all safety parameters for heavy traffic had
been vetted.
According to Kothwale, the restrictions were initially enforced in May 2025 after a severe landslide triggered by relentless heavy rainfall compromised a lane leading towards Margao. At the time, the administration banned the movement of heavy vehicles to ensure public safety and prevent further
structural degradation.
Announcing the reopening, Kothwale said, “Being satisfied that it is expedient to do so in the interest of public convenience and safety, I hereby withdraw, with immediate effect, the restrictions imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles, medium commercial vehicles, and buses on Rawanfond bridge.”
The Collector has also directed authorities to regulate the renewed traffic flow, dismantle temporary diversion arrangements and update signboards to reflect the restored
traffic pattern.
