Tourist four-wheelers to shell out Rs 300 per trip
Panaji: The state government has decided to charge Rs 300 per trip for tourist cars on the Ro-Ro ferryboats that are expected to start within the next ten days on the Ribandar-Chorao route.
Additionally, pedestrian tourists will have to shell out Rs 50 per trip for joyrides. Pedestrians and two-wheelers will however travel free on the Ro-Ro ferryboats.
“The fare for the four-wheelers with a pass would cost Rs 15 per trip while without the pass it would cost Rs 30 per trip. The cost per trip for rent-a-car would cost Rs 100 while for tourist cars it would be Rs 300 per trip. Pedestrian tourists who take joyrides on Ro-Ro ferryboats will have to pay Rs 50 per trip. Also, Goan taxis will not be charged any fares,”
said River Navigation director Vikramsinh Rajebhosale, adding that pedestrians and two-wheelers will commute free.
He said that the payment for taking monthly passes or even the trips can be done through the app developed for the department or through the point of sale (POS) machines that will be made available on board the Ro-Ro ferryboats.
“The final meeting with the app developer will be held on Tuesday. The government has approved the fares for commuting on the Ro-Ro ferryboats. We expect a notification on Tuesday and the app will be ready by Friday,” he said.
“We plan to start the Ro-Ro ferryboat services by July 7 provided all the operational requirements are completed,” he said.
The two Ro-Ro ferryboats will run on the route from 7 am to 9 pm. From 9 pm to 7 am, the RND will deploy three conventional ferryboats on this route.
These ferryboats have the capacity to commute 100 passengers, 16 four-wheelers and 40 two-wheelers during a trip. These have air-conditioned cabins and facilities like toilets too.
