Amid the rising heat across the state, commuters
at the Kadamba Bus Stand in Panaji have been
left without access to basic drinking water, with the
installed water cooler lying non-functional and neglected.

The facility, inaugurated in 2025 by Union Minister Shripad Naik, was intended to provide relief to travellers. However, within a year of its launch, the kiosk has failed to serve its purpose, drawing criticism from commuters and activists.

Roland Martins, convenor of Goacan, said it was concerning that facilities are launched with publicity but lack proper annual maintenance. He said the condition of the water kiosk at such a key public location was unacceptable, particularly during a heatwave, and called for immediate action.

Commuters expressed frustration over the situation, stating that the absence of drinking water has made travel difficult in the prevailing heat. A daily passenger said basic amenities such as drinking water should not be neglected, while another pointed out that announcements and inaugurations raise expectations, but poor upkeep undermines public trust.

Earlier, when questioned about projects becoming defunct after inauguration, Naik had said the implementing partner, TSL, would ensure the facility remains operational throughout the year. However, the present condition of the kiosk appears to contradict those assurances.

The issue has once again highlighted gaps in maintenance and accountability, with citizens demanding urgent steps to restore essential services at one of the state’s busiest transport hubs.
