Margao: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said on Monday that tenders for road and flyover construction works across the state worth crores of rupees will be issued within a month, as proposals submitted to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari are expected to receive approval.

Kamat had earlier proposed various projects which includes  bypasses, bridges and flyovers, all roughly estimated at cost Rs 7,700 crore.

“I have presented significant infrastructure proposals to the Union Minister during my visit to Delhi. The minister assured me that several of these projects would be prioritised. Within a month, tenders for infrastructure works valued in crores will be floated,” said Kamat while addressing the media on the sidelines of the Republic Day function in Margao.

He said that detailed project reports for several initiatives would be submitted to the ministry concerned.

He further said that within the next 15 days, his department will prepare a detailed project report for the Arlem–Aquem flyover, estimated to cost around Rs 700 crore, and forward it to the Union Minister’s office.

When asked about the number of development proposals related to Margao included in his submissions, Kamat said that “there are many” proposals, which will be revealed shortly.

Responding to questions about the model code of conduct likely to come into force ahead of municipal elections, Kamat said, “The majority of the tenders will be issued within a month’s time. I am diligently following up.”

Commenting on the Arlem–Nuvem bypass road, which has become a dumping ground due to the absence of street lighting, Kamat said a meeting would be held with PWD and Electricity Department officials to resolve the issue.

“We will ensure that streetlights are installed along this road stretch. It will be my priority,” said Kamat.

Regarding the recently renovated Ayush hospital at Moti-Dongor, Kamat said the government would take over only after the entire process is completed.
