Margao

The long-pending repair and renovation of the comunidade building in Margao is likely to begin next week.

Additional Collector-I, South Goa, Srineth Kothwale on Friday said that the PWD had already initiated steps for the renovation project. “Administrative approval from the government has been obtained, and expenditure sanction from the Finance Department is expected shortly. The work order is likely to be issued within the next few days,” Kothwale said
during a meeting.

Representatives of several comunidades from South Goa attended the meeting to review the renovation plans. They commended the government’s decision to retain ownership rights of the comunidade building with the
comunidade authorities.

Members strongly stressed the urgent need for roof repairs before the onset of the monsoon to prevent further deterioration of the old building. They said that water leakage and seepage had already become major concerns. Attention was also drawn to the roof’s drainage system, which requires proper covering and management during the repair work to ensure rainwater is effectively diverted.

The members also requested that the PWD coordinate with designated comunidade representatives during the renovation process and share drawings and work orders to ensure smooth execution.

Old comunidade records are stored in the building and members suggested proper indexing, inventorying, safe shifting and digitisation of these records.
