An accused in a Rs 6.3 crore fraud case, who escaped from Karnataka police custody during an investigation at an offshore casino
in Goa, was nabbed by Panaji coastal security police from a farm in Dodamarg, Maharashtra.

Gagan Deep N (32) had escaped from the offshore casino where he was taken by Karnataka police as part of the ongoing investigation into a cheating case.

The Bengaluru City police had arrested Deep, a native of Chikballapur, Karnataka, on March 31 for allegedly duping a Bengaluru-based charitable trust of Rs 6.30 crore by impersonating himself as an official of a reputed multinational company.

He was earlier nabbed from Anjuna and taken to Bengaluru for further investigation.

According to sources, a part of the defrauded amount was spent at a casino in Goa.

The Bengaluru police arrived in Goa on April 3 along with the accused to recover the money. A police officer said that on the night of April 4, police officials along with the accused went to the casino.

During the process, the accused took advantage of the crowd inside the casino, pushed police personnel and escaped.

Subsequently, a complaint was filed by Bengaluru police inspector Rakesh C before the Panaji coastal security police station, based on which an FIR was registered.

The Panaji coastal security police, with the help of human intelligence and technical surveillance, traced the accused to a location in Dodamarg, Maharashtra. “The accused was detained from a farm at Dodamarg and was brought to Goa,” said a police officer, adding that the accused is being handed over to the Bengaluru police.

The Panaji coastal security police team, consisting of
ASI Carlos Pontes, HC Suryakant Bordekar, and police constables Laxman Kauthankar and Rajesh Mardolkar, under the supervision of PI Sajith Pillai, tracked down the accused.
