Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has proposed to the Centre the introduction of fast trains along the Pernem-Canacona railway corridor.

Sawant met Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday in New Delhi over rail infra.

He  discussed with Vaishnaw key initiatives aimed at enhancing railway operations in Goa.

The discussions included expanding services, introducing fast trains on the Pernem-Canacona rail route, and upgrading the Maem railway station.

Sawant also highlighted plans for the modernisation of Margao railway station through the public-private partnership model, along with other critical infrastructure projects.

Recently, the Chief Minister announced that Goa would soon have intercity express trains, including the Vande Bharat, connecting Canacona to Pernem on the Konkan railway route in the next two-three years.

He also mentioned that more cities would be linked to the train services in the near future.
