The matter concerning the establishment of a tiger reserve in Goa is likely to
be taken up for hearing before the Supreme Court on February 19.
Earlier, the case had been scheduled for hearing before the apex court on February 16. The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) had previously submitted its findings to the Supreme Court in connection with the proposal to notify a tiger reserve in the state. Responses from stakeholders are still awaited as part of the ongoing judicial proceedings.
In a related development, the All-India tiger census is set to commence in Goa in March. Forest authorities are
preparing for field exercises as part of the nationwide
tiger population estimation drive.
