In a step to professionalise local governance and ensure citizen-centric and transparent administration, seven village panchayats received ISO certification at a programme organised by the Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (GIPARD) and the Directorate of Panchayat on Friday.

Minister for Panchayats Mauvin Godinho presented the ISO certificates to the panchayats of Volvoi, Sarzora, Sao Matias, Keri-Terekhol, Menkurem-Dhumase, Harvalem, and Chicalim, recognising their efficient public service delivery. Godinho said the certification reflects higher standards of administrative practices that the Panchayats must maintain.

He added that another 41 Panchayats are in the process of obtaining ISO certification, boosting local bodies’ commitment to better, transparent, and
vibrant public service.

GIPARD Director Vasudev Shetye highlighted key initiatives taken to upgrade administrative standards and implement ISO certification. Volvoi Sarpanch Vinayak Vengurlekar appreciated
the efforts of GIPARD and the directorate in transforming panchayat administration. ISO Consultant and lead auditor Adrian Simoes emphasised that ISO certification is a beginning, urging panchayats to sustain citizen-centric practices
