Margao

Margao MLA and PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday said works undertaken by the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation and the Electricity Department were the main reasons behind the sunken and potholed roads in Margao. He said that a jet patcher would be deployed next week to speed up repairs.

“The trenches that were dug up and then filled are beginning to sink with the rains. The sewerage corporation and electricity department often dig deep trenches, which are then not properly repaired,” Kamat said, while speaking to reporters after a public meeting at the South Goa Collectorate.

He said that around three to four places have been identified, and he has written to the authorities concerned seeking proper repair work.

Kamat also addressed complaints that some panchayat secretaries were not issuing certificates to applicants. He said if an applicant is a resident of the village, the panchayat should issue the required certificate. Several people also raised the lack of action by government authorities against illegal constructions.

Earlier in the day, Kamat met members of the public at the Margao Municipal Council hall, where residents raised several civic issues.

Asked about the NAKSHA survey, Kamat said, “The set process is being followed. It does not fall under my purview, but if there is any difficulty or any specific case, I can raise it with the Revenue Minister.”
