South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus, along with Additional Collector-II Ramesh Gaonkar and other senior officials, visited the family of deceased Rajendra Gaonkar and Mohandas Gaonkar at Jogolimol, Sirsorem, Rivona, on Saturday.

The visit came days after the tragic death of the two brothers, who were electrocuted while cutting grass for their cattle on August 27.

During the visit, the collector assured the bereaved family, including the victims’ 80-year-old ailing mother, of immediate administrative support and financial relief.

“We have already initiated the process for providing ex gratia relief. Subject to the Chief Minister’s approval, the bereaved family will receive financial assistance for the loss of Rajendra Kashinath Gaonkar, 46, and Mohandas Kashinath Gaonkar, 40,” she said.

She conveyed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s condolences to the family and instructed the local police to remain in touch with the elderly mother to provide any required assistance.

“Local representatives will also extend help to the family,” she added.

Additional Collector-II Ramesh Gaonkar confirmed that the District Disaster Management Authority would also step in to provide further aid as necessary.

Reliable sources have indicated that the government is likely to provide Rs 4 lakh each as ex gratia compensation to the family
of the deceased.

Those present during the visit included Zilla Panchayat member of Rivona Suresh Kepekar, SDPO, Quepem, Ashish Shirodkar, Quepem PI Arun Sangodkar, Quepem Mamlatdar Nathan Afonso, and veterinary officer Dr Mahendra Bale.
