Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said sports science training should be expanded to every taluka in Goa to strengthen grassroots coaching and equip coaches and physical education teachers with modern scientific methods.
He was speaking after inaugurating the three-day Capacity Building Workshop on Applied Sports Science, titled ‘Bridging Science and Sports’, at Peddem, Mapusa.
“The workshop will equip coaches and physical education teachers with modern sports science, training methodologies, nutrition, biomechanics, injury prevention and athlete welfare, thereby strengthening Goa’s sporting ecosystem from the grassroots,” Sawant said.

also said that Physical Education teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing sporting talent, promoting fitness and inspiring a Nasha Mukt Bharat through healthy lifestyles.
The three-day workshop was jointly organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Sports Authority of Goa to strengthen the knowledge and skills of coaches and Physical Education teachers by integrating modern sports science into coaching practices.
The workshop includes sessions on exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, sports psychology, biomechanics, injury prevention, sports medicine, recovery, training load monitoring, age-appropriate training, ethics, anti-doping and athlete welfare.
“The state government has been making sustained efforts to create a robust sports ecosystem,” said Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and urged participants to adopt evidence-based coaching practices for athlete development.
Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, Dr Ajay Gaude, said the workshop aims to bridge the gap between sports science and practical coaching while improving athlete performance, health and long-term development.
