Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the Goa state assembly will take up as many as 13 bills on its first day, including supplementary appropriation bills, during the upcoming three-day monsoon session of the House, which is set to begin on August 31.
“These bills will be passed on the last day of the assembly session after duly debating on them,” he said, pointing out, “The bills earlier cleared by the cabinet would be placed before the
House.”
Sawant further said that the routine questions and other matters will also be taken up as per the decisions of the Speaker.
Earlier, the Chief Minister participated in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting at the assembly
complex.
The BAC meeting witnessed the MLAs of the Opposition parties turning aggressive over the limited tenure of the forthcoming assembly session.
Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, who also attended the BAC meeting, criticised the three-day assembly session, alleging that the government is treating the House as a formality.
Maintaining that the assembly should ideally meet for at least 30 days in a year, he said that he will again write to the Speaker seeking an extension of the assembly session, noting that this could be the last session before the elections.
Alemao accused the government of allowing corruption, drug trafficking and criminal activity to flourish, alleging a nexus between politicians, police and criminals.
Meanwhile, the Goa Forward Party has written to the Speaker, seeking time during the upcoming assembly session to discuss poor road infrastructure, rising unemployment and unplanned development.
Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar assured that all key issues will be discussed in the assembly and said that his decisions will remain completely neutral. He said that issues concerning public welfare will be addressed appropriately.
