Taxi travel in Goa is set for a major fare restructuring, with the State Transport Authority notifying new distance slab-based rates for yellow/black taxis as well as tourist taxis, motor cabs and maxi cabs, replacing the fare schedules notified in August 2021.
The new rates come into force from their publication in the Official Gazette on September 25.
For yellow/black taxis, the revised tariff introduces a base fare of Rs 300 for the first 0-3 km and Rs 430 for 3.1-8 km for hatchbacks and sedans in the lower engine categories. The charge for every subsequent kilometre has been fixed at Rs 26, compared with Rs 21 per km under the 2021 notification.
Night travel will attract 35 per cent extra between 11 pm and 5 am, while yellow/black taxis will charge 50 per cent extra for one-way journeys outside municipal limits.
The increase is more pronounced for larger vehicles. The 1500cc-2499cc regular SUV category will have a Rs 400 fare for 0-3 km and Rs 560 for 3.1-8 km, followed by Rs 32 per km. Premium SUVs/MPVs will attract Rs 500 and Rs 660 respectively, with the subsequent kilometre charge also fixed at Rs 32. The 2021 notification, by contrast, prescribed Rs 24 for the first kilometre and Rs 21 for subsequent kilometres across these categories.
The revised tourist taxi tariff also moves away from the earlier four-hour/50-km and eight-hour/100-km package system. The 2021 rates ranged from Rs 1,050 for four hours and Rs 2,050 for eight hours for a 998cc-1199cc hatchback, with an additional Rs 21 per km. The new system fixes Rs 300 for 0-3 km, Rs 445 for 3.1-8 km and Rs 29 for every subsequent
kilometre.
For higher categories, the new subsequent-kilometre rates broadly retain the 2021 levels—Rs 36 for 1200-1499cc hatchbacks, Rs 43 for sedans, Rs 49 for regular and premium SUVs, and Rs 149 for premium cabs.
