The Tuem Hospital Kruti Samiti has threatened to launch a fast unto death from January 28 if the
government fails to give
a written assurance that the new Tuem hospital
will be linked to Goa Medical
College.
“We strongly object to shifting of existing community health centre in the new building. Also we request the government to give a written assurance that the hospital will be linked to Goa Medical College by January 25, failing which we will go on fast unto death from January 28 onwards,” said president of the Kruti Samiti Jose Lobo.
The samiti had recently held a five-day hunger chain protest, followed by a mega torchlight protest in which nearly 2,000 people from different parts of the constituency participated.
For the past two years, the samiti has been demanding that the Tuem hospital be made functional with a formal linkage to Goa Medical College, along with recruitment of medical, allied and support staff, with priority given to eligible candidates from Pernem taluka.
Over the past two years, the samiti has carried out several protests to press its demands. These included submitting memorandums to the Chief Minister and Health Minister, pasting posters and holding meetings with all nine panchayats from the Mandrem constituency to create awareness.
