The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested Ayesha alias S B Krishna, a suspect in a terror-linked illegal religious conversion case, from Old Goa.

Police sources said she was residing in a flat near a well-known

hospital in Old Goa and had earlier lived in a rented house at Santana, Talaulim in the St Andre constituency.

According to Uttar Pradesh Police, the arrest took place on Saturday as part of a nationwide operation targeting illegal conversion rackets.

A total of 10 individuals were arrested from six states — Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Goa, and Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Police said the arrest was made under ‘Mission Asmita’, a special drive to dismantle illegal conversion syndicates.

“This is a dedicated initiative of Uttar Pradesh Police to take on criminals involved in serious offences such as illegal conversions, radicalisation, love jihad, and deliberate attempts to undermine national security with the help of transnational networks,” UP Police said.

Preliminary investigations by UP Police suggest the group had links with organisations such as the Popular Front of India (PFI), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), and certain extremist groups in Pakistan.
