Stating that the health department has been working in the forefront to provide the best healthcare facilities to Goans, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that while we are providing infrastructure facilities, doctors also need to adapt to new technologies and embrace themselves.

The Minister further warned doctors at the Goa Medical College (GMC) who fail to upgrade themselves with new technologies in their services will be terminated.

Rane was speaking at the inaugural session of the mega health camp at Mapusa on Saturday organised at the SIHFW building at Old Asilo in Mapusa, which received overwhelming response from the people of the town.

Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, GMC dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Dr Ida De Noronha De Ataide, Dean Dental College, Dr Rupa Naik, Health Director, and others were present.

Rane said, “We have started with the initiative to reach out to people to provide them with access to preventive healthcare and are happy to see the responses as people from all age groups had come out.”

Rane said that efforts will be made to reach out to people with the new concept of ‘State Care’ in the next three months for the benefit of senior citizens and camps will be organised all over Goa.

In order to reduce cardiology-related deaths, Rane said, “We have taken a decision to set up three divisions in cardiology and a new upgraded system will be set up and outdated doctors will be removed.”

Commenting on the facilities at South Goa, Minister Rane said that no injustice will be done to the patients of South Goa District Hospital. Cardiology services will be made available to patients. Neurology, up gradation of ICU will be done. Additional beds will also be made available for the patients.

The minister further clarified that a new health facility will come up on the demolished site of Old Asilo hospital, and it will not be given to any other department. Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza requested the Health Minister to undertake an upgrade of the Mapusa Urban Health Center near Court Junction and give a new building.
