Mapusa: Illegal dumping of construction debris, garbage, and wooden waste on agricultural land in Morod-Mapusa is seeing upset locals flagging serious health and environmental concerns due to stagnant rainwater that has accumulated at the site.
Sources said the dumping is taking place near the Sub-Registrar’s office on roadside land formerly used for agriculture.
The open dumping has led to water accumulation, heightening the risk of mosquito breeding.
Local councillor Sudhir Kandolkar said that a 30-metre-wide road connecting the new bus stand to the highway has been proposed through the same area. “Initially, the space was used for dumping and parking. But now, unknown people are dumping debris at night. There’s no control as it’s done secretly,” he said.
He said that the standing water could pose a health threat and urged for immediate measures to prevent further accumulation.
The Bardez Mamlatdar has inspected the site, prepared a checklist, and submitted it for further action.
