Canacona
The Goa government has assured accelerated urban development and strengthened health infrastructure in Canacona, with Urban Development and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday stating that the taluka will no longer be perceived as backward.
Rane, who inaugurated the reconstructed Canacona municipal building, said, “Canacona will be developed as per the requirements of local residents. Development at the ground level will lead to modernisation.”
Minister and local MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said the inauguration of the municipal building was a long-awaited and assured that all roads in Canacona would be safe and free of potholes in the future.
The reconstructed municipal building includes a central auditorium with a seating capacity of approximately 1,000 people, modern office spaces for municipal staff, a conference hall, and commercial shops and an ATM on the ground floor.
The project was completed at an approximate cost of Rs 11 crore by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, replacing the old Portuguese-era structure at Chaudi.
After the inauguration, Rane visited the Canacona Community Health Centre and discussed problems and shortcomings with officials. He said that once a report is received, all limitations at the health centre would be addressed. He said three from the 60 doctors recently appointed would be posted at the Canacona CHC. He also said the facility should provide full-time gynaecology services, radiology, X-ray facilities, maternity care with childbirth, nutritious food for patients, and immediate assistance for accident victims.
He also met patients coming from Karwar.
