Goa University (GU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sony Research India to establish state-of-the-art advanced artificial intelligence (AAI) laboratory on the Goa University campus, the first industry-supported lab of its kind. The lab will be housed at the Goa University Research Park Unit (GURU).

“This landmark engagement between Sony Research India and GU aims to strengthen research innovation and skill development in artificial intelligence and allied domains in the long term at GU,” said a statement issued by GU.

“This is a new participation agreement granted by Sony Research India to sponsor and support the laboratory in artificial intelligence along with fellowship programme to carry out cutting-edge research. The research initiatives will focus on advanced artificial intelligence for multimodal data, aiming to foster a supportive environment where researchers can pursue cutting-edge AI research, generate large-scale high-quality datasets, and empower emerging scholars to advance the field,” it said.

GU said that the programme will also strengthen capacity in research, training, and outreach through hands-on workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.

Additionally, researchers from Sony Research India will be invited to collaborate in joint research projects, deliver guest lectures, and provide guidance on state-of-the-art AI research to support AAI’s initiatives.
