Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant have extended greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Gudi Padwa which marks the commencement of the traditional New Year.
Pillai, in his message, said that Gudi Padwa is celebrated in different states and regions with a different set of rituals and is also known by various names such as Ugadi, Yugadi, Saunsar Padwa, Cheti Chand, etc.
“Gudi Padwa, heralds the dawn of the New Year, when the people renew their sentimental, social and spiritual values and rededicate themselves to work for a better and more fruitful and wholesome life in the society. May the celebration this year bring immense happiness and greater prosperity to one and all,” he said.
Urging every Goan to embrace the spirit of self-reliance, innovation, and collective growth, Sawant said that the festival aligns with Goa’s vision of Swayampurna Goa and the national goal of Viksit Bharat. “Gudi Padwa is a celebration of new beginnings and the triumph of good over obstacles. Let us take inspiration from this sacred festival to rededicate ourselves to building a prosperous Swayampurna Goa, contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
“As we hoist the gudi with pride, let it remind us of our responsibility to work harder, support local industries, strengthen the rural economy, and empower our youth for a self-sufficient and sustainable Goa. May this Gudi Padwa bring new hope, harmony, and success to every household. May it lay the foundation for strong communities, new opportunities, and a future filled with prosperity for all,” Sawant said.
