All-rounder’s four-wicket burst seals 8-run win for his team
Panaji: Nitesh Kambli delivered a clutch bowling performance, grabbing 4/37, to guide Korgao Cricketers to a thrilling eight-run win over Nageshi Youth in the Betim United Trophy at the SAG Ground, Campal, on Friday.
Defending a total of 160, Kambli struck vital blows at crucial junctures to derail Nageshi’s chase. He was supported by Aryan Narvekar (2/02), while Anush Kerkar, Reyan Kerkar, and Abhijit Kerkar chipped in with a wicket apiece as Korgao held firm in the tense final overs.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Korgao rode on a fluent 57 from Anush Kerkar to set a competitive 160/7 in 18 overs. Aryan Narvekar (36) and Siel Kambli (27) played valuable cameos in the middle order. Nageshi’s Shubham Pathan was the standout bowler with figures of 4/21, but lacked support from the rest of the attack.
In reply, Kedar Naik’s fighting 47 kept Nageshi Youth in the hunt, while Pathan (21) and Shubham Desai (17) chipped in with handy runs. However, regular strikes from the Korgao bowlers proved decisive as Nageshi were restricted to 152/9, falling agonisingly short in a cracking contest.
