In a first for the Konkani language, the Parliament library in New Delhi has added Konkani newspapers to its collection, while the Konkani interpretation of the Lok Sabha proceedings has already begun.
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes said he had requested the Director of the Parliament Library to include Konkani newspapers Bhaangarbhuin and Vauradeancho Ixtt in the library’s newspaper section.
“This is our tribute to Goan Konkani writers who have worked hard to ensure that Konkani language flourishes and its literature reaches the masses. Our mother language has got two Jnanpith awards. The efforts of all the Tiatrists, Natak artists, Teachers and Students needs to be commended,” he said. Further stating that Konkani needs to be made stronger through literature and exposure to the young generations, Fernandes thanked all Konkani lovers who are striving hard to preserve and enrich the language.
