Panaji: Dempo Sports Club has appointed Lector Mascarenhas as its new General Secretary, effective June 1, 2025. The announcement was made by club chairman Shrinivas Dempo, who welcomed Lector back and highlighted his blend of football and administrative experience as a major asset for the club.
A former Dempo SC player himself, Lector began his football journey with Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem-Sanvordem. He represented Goa at the junior level, winning the Junior Nationals in 1981, and was also part of the Goa squad that lifted the Santosh Trophy in 1983. His club career included stints at Salgaocar SC, Tata Sports Club, and Customs and Central Excise, Mumbai.
After retiring as Assistant Collector of Customs and Central Excise, Lector served as General Secretary of the Goa Football Association for a year.
“I’m honoured to return to Dempo SC in this new role,” Lector said. “As a player, I was dedicated and disciplined, and I will carry the same spirit into my duties as General Secretary. My goal is to help Dempo SC return to the top level of Indian football.”
He also praised the Dempo Football Academy, calling it well-equipped to produce top Goan talent.
Chairman Shrinivas Dempo said Lector’s return will help strengthen the club’s academy, Pro League, and I-League efforts, adding that his all-round background makes him the right choice to guide the club forward.
