A day after more than 25 managing committee members of various comunidades submitted objections to the recently passed Goa Legislative Diploma No 2070 (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Loliem-Polem comunidade has thrown its weight behind the government, saying the bill will benefit both villagers
and the comunidade.
The bill seeks to regularise unauthorised houses built on comunidade land. President Vishwajit Varik said most of the houses constructed illegally on comunidade land belonged to locals.
“Past and present executive members of the comunidade have taken many legal steps against encroachments, but nothing substantial came from our efforts,” he said.
“The Loliem-Polem comunidade welcomes the bill as no person will now have to fear demolition of their houses.”
Attorney Bhushan Prabhugaonkar said the bill provides for regularisation of the plinth area of a dwelling plus two metres on all sides, up to a maximum of 300 sqm.
“This will help the comunidade get back its land and the people their houses, which has been a long-standing issue,” he said.
At a recent meeting, the comunidade passed a resolution supporting the government’s move and the Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Bill.
