Mapusa : Achieving a ‘lead’ in the Ganeshpuri armed dacoity case, the Goa police have zeroed in on three persons in a South India city. However, the whereabouts of the dacoits are yet to be ascertained.
Although the police remained tightlipped on Thursday over the progress of the probe into the dacoity case, it is understood that the three persons, who are linked to the case, are being brought to Goa.
The police had dispatched eight teams to neighbouring states to track down the dacoits.
Sources said the robbers had travelled in a getaway car to Panaji after burgling the bungalow of a prominent doctor at Ganeshpuri in Mapusa.
The robbers had fled in the doctor’s car and abandoned it in Panaji. They had decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 35 lakh.
Later they approached a taxi driver to ferry them to Belagavi, Karnataka. Interestingly, instead of using his taxi, the taximan chose to drive a private vehicle to take them to Belagavi via Chorla Ghat route.
The accused were dropped near a bus stand in that city. Later, they split up, and might have dispersed to different cities.
Sources said the police are using technical surveillance and CCTV footage of the accused. A sketch of the robbers has been prepared with the help of inputs from the taxi driver.
Crime branch officials are also involved in the investigation of the case.
