Sankhali: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the local municipality is committed to completing the master plan for Sankhali town in the next three to four years.
“After the Panaji city master plan, Sankhali town was the second in the state to get a similar plan. While its implementation faced numerous challenges, work on the plan is already under way,” he said.
Sawant was speaking at the inauguration of an open-air venue in Harvale, Ward No. 1 of Sakhali municipality. The work was funded by the municipality and initiated by councillor Yashwant Madkar.
Sawant said that Sankhali comprises necessary educational facilities, ranging from kindergarten to post-graduate. In addition to schools, there are colleges for nursing, physiotherapy, naturopathy, and yogic science, with a pharmacy college set to open soon, he said.
The Radhakrishna Muralidhar Temple premises have been beautified, and work will soon begin on the Shri Rudreshwar Temple premises in Harvale at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore, he said.
“With these developments, Sankhali will eventually be recognised as both an educational and a temple town,” Sawant said.
Also present were Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu, Deputy Chairperson Anand Kanekar, Chief Officer Bhimnath Khorjuvekar, councillors Yashwant Madkar, Brahmanand Desai, Praveen Blegan, Rashmi Desai, junior engineer Subhash Mhalshekar, and Jayesh Kalangutkar.
Prabhu said that under Sawant’s leadership, both the municipality and local panchayats are receiving necessary funds for proposed projects, which has led to a significant acceleration of development works.
Madkar said that most of the work in ward 1 has been completed with Sawant’s cooperation. He also mentioned that the construction of a protective wall at Supachipud, aimed at preventing flooding during the monsoon, will be taken up soon.
