New Delhi: The CBI has registered an FIR in the alleged murder of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, taking over the investigation from the state police, officials said. The CBI action came following a request from the state government, they said.

The agency has formed a seven-member special investigation team under a DIG of special crime from Delhi, comprising some of the best investigators of the agency.

The team will report to the joint director, Kolkata.

The officers of the Kolkata zone of the CBI will also join the team for investigation, they said.

According to the officials, the CBI team has already reached the crime scene and started the investigation.

According to the procedure, the CBI re-registers the state police FIR as its own case, which becomes the starting point for the probe.
