Marking significant progress in residential solar adoption, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has surpassed 26 lakh installations, with Rs 17,967 crore disbursed as central financial assistance, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik informed the Rajya Sabha.

The scheme is demand-driven and open to all residential consumers with grid-connected electricity connections from their respective DISCOMs. Eligible consumers can apply for installation of rooftop solar systems through the national portal.

Since its launch, a total of 26,19,879 rooftop solar installations have been completed across the country as of March 19, 2026. Further, under the scheme, Rs 17,967.53 crore has been disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to beneficiaries during the same period.

The entire process – from application to subsidy disbursal – is carried out online through the national portal. Once all required details are correctly submitted, the average time taken for processing CFA is approximately 15 days after the redemption request by the consumer.

The government has undertaken several measures to expedite DISCOM approvals and subsidy payments under the scheme, said Naik. The scheme continues to play a key role in promoting clean energy adoption, the minister informed the Rajya Sabha.
