Navelim Sporting Club booked their spot in the semifinals of the Benaulim Villagers Cup with a commanding 4-1 win over Cuncolim Union at the St John the Baptist Panchayat ground, Dando, Benaulim.
Cuncolim began with purpose but failed to convert two early chances, as Vinod Velip and Wilson both missed clear
openings.
Navelim made them pay dearly for the lapses, with Noah Luis netting twice in quick succession in the 19th and 21st minutes to give his team a 2-0 lead at the break.
After the change of sides it was a renewed Cuncolim Union that pressed the attack. Brigesh Shelke gave Cuncolim brief hope with a goal in the 38th minute, but that was quickly dashed when Prestly Gomes restored the two-goal cushion that Navelim just a minute later.
Rehan Sayyed then wrapped up the match with a goal in the 44th minute setting Cuncolim an insurmountable challenge.
Cuncolim pressed in the dying moments, but Navelim custodian Selvin Gomes proved his mettle under the sticks, producing vital saves to maintain the advantage and seal a convincing win for his side.
