Panaji: The government has made Aadhaar card mandatory for farmers to receive subsidy payment under the Anna Millet scheme and the assistance towards sugarcane supplied by Sugarcane Growers Scheme.
The revised guidelines issued by the Directorate of Agriculture, on Thursday, for availing the scheme benefits says that, the use of Aadhaar as an identity document for delivery of services or receiving subsidies is aimed at simplifying the government’s delivery processes as well as bringing in transparency and efficiency. Henceforth Aadhaar authentication is necessary at the time of receiving subsidy in the bank account via online transfer.
For farmers who do not have Aadhaar or have no Aadhaar facilitation centre nearby, the department will provide the Aadhaar enrolment facilities at a convenient locations in coordination with the existing registrars of UIDAI or by becoming a UIDAI registrar themselves, says the new guidelines.
The Anna-Millets cultivation central scheme aims to promote the cultivation of millets and enhance the area and production of millets in the state, bring fallow areas under cultivation of the crop, promote optimum use of inputs such as quality seeds, fertilizers, etc. to enhance productivity of millets and make the cultivation more economically viable.
The scheme gives assistance of Rs 20,000 per hectare as incentive for cultivation of all types of millets to farmers.
The assistance towards sugarcane cultivation scheme is aimed at assisting the sugarcane growers to take up sugarcane cultivation.
